AmeriCorps Volunteer in Service to America (VISTA): As a VISTA member, you'll be assigned for one year, full-time, to a nonprofit organization -- a shelter for abused or battered women, a health clinic for low-income families, or a disadvantaged school. Or you may be assigned to an organization that is helping people move from welfare to work or that is introducing technology to an underserved neighborhood. You'll recruit and train volunteers, raise funds and write grants, gather corporate sponsorship and donations, plan community meetings, and handle public relations -- whatever it takes to make your project come together. VISTA members also receive a $4,725 education award at the end their term of service.
City Year: An Action Tank for national service, City Year seeks to demonstrate, improve and promote the concept of national service as a means for building a stronger democracy. An 'action tank' is both a program and a 'think tank' - constantly combining theory and practice to advance new policy ideas, make programmatic breakthroughs, and bring about major changes in society. City Year has programs in Boston, Chicago, Cleveland, Columbia, Columbus,Detroit,New Hampshire,New York, Philadelphia,Rhode Island, San Antonio,San Jose, Seattle and Washington, D.C. City Year is an AmeriCorp Program. After one year of service City Year members receive an education award of $4,725.
AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps: AmeriCorps*NCCC (National Civilian Community Corps) is a residential, team-based, national service initiative that engages young adults ages 18 to 24 in full-time service. Operated directly by the Corporation for National and Community Service, AmeriCorps*NCCC is part of a national network of service programs that help local communities address their compelling needs. There are currently more than 50,000 members serving in AmeriCorps*NCCC, AmeriCorps*VISTA, and over 900 other local AmeriCorpsprograms throughout the country. AmeriCorps*NCCC members perform team-based service projects in six different areas—environment, education, public safety, unmet needs, homeland security, and disaster relief—in communities in all 50 states and U.S. territories. At the conclusion of service NCCC members receive a $4,725 education award.
Public Allies: Public Allies envisions communities where people of different backgrounds, beliefs and experiences work together and share responsibility for improving their own lives and the lives of those around them.Public Allies advances diverse young leaders to strengthen communities, nonprofits and civic participation. Through our core program, Public Allies advances the skills, networks and experience of diverse young leaders as they strengthen communities, nonprofits and civic participation. Public Allies selects our communities' most promising young leaders, ages 18-30, who commit to a rigorous and rewarding ten-month program of full-time, paid apprenticeships in community organizations, team service projects and weekly leadership training.Public Allies is an AmeriCorp Program. Upon completion of service members receive a $4,725 education award.
Year Up: Year Up is a one-year, intensive training program that provides urban young adults 18-24, with a unique combination of technical and professional skills, college credits, and a paid corporate internship. Based in Boston, MA.
Youth Venture: Youth Venture is a national non-profit organization that empowers young people ages 12-20 by providing them all the tools necessary to create civic-minded organizations, clubs or businesses. We provide access to a variety of resources including: a national network of like-minded young people, media opportunities and up to $1,000 in seed capital needed to launch their organizations. We believe that youth inherently have the creativity and determination to create genuine change within their communities. Emerging Leaders: Leaders have distinct qualities—the drive to achieve and the desire to excel. And determination that, with time and experience, inspires them to meet and conquer one milestone after another. The Emerging Leaders program recognizes undergraduate and graduate level college students with disabilities who possess these unique traits, and matches them with paid summer internships at prominent corporations.
Youth Build:The positive energy and intelligence of young people should be liberated and enlisted in solving the problems facing our society. Young men and women in low-income communities want to help revitalize their neighborhoods and will do so if given the opportunity. The desire to do meaningful work is universal. Community-based organizations need to be given the resources to solve local problems and to mobilize people, including neighborhood youth.YouthBuild USA's mission is to unleash the intelligence and positive energy of low-income young people to rebuild their communities and their lives.
