In an effort to serve more young people from underserved communities, The Computer Clubhouse Network based at the Museum of Science, Boston, supports the establishment of an international network of Computer Clubhouses. The original, "flagship" Clubhouse founded by The Computer Museum (now part of the Museum of Science, Boston) serves as a model, providing ideas, examples, materials, and support for other Clubhouses across the country and around the world.

We support museums, youth organizations, and other community centers in starting their own community-based Clubhouses in local neighborhoods.

The Computer Clubhouse Network supports the ongoing operations of Computer Clubhouses in several ways. First, the "flagship" Computer Clubhouse at the Museum of Science serves as a center for innovation and technical expertise, and, through our collaboration with the MIT Media Laboratory, as a test bed for new learning ideas, learning models, and technologies (e.g., LEGO robotics). Programs are developed in the "flagship" Clubhouse and disseminated to the other Clubhouses, incorporating new ideas for engaging young people with creative uses of technology.

Secondly, The Computer Clubhouse Network has developed and maintains an Internet-based Computer Clubhouse community, where Clubhouse members around the world can meet and interact electronically. Computer Clubhouse members are able to exchange information and communicate through e-mail, and also collaborate and design activities and share computer-based projects. At this virtual, on-line Clubhouse youth from member sites around the world can explore, hang their own artwork in virtual galleries, design computer games together, participate in on-line simulations, and work in virtual animation labs. A monthly newsletter, e-mail exchanges, 'pen/video'-pals etc. also helps link Clubhouse members to what is ultimately an international community of Clubhouses. Clubhouses who participate in the Computer Clubhouse Network are able to access a 'help-line'- service at The Computer Clubhouse Network based at the Museum of Science.

If you are interested in talking about participation, please contact Gail Breslow, the Clubhouse Director at gbreslow@mos.org
