TEEN
SUMMIT Several teens from Little Haiti who participate in the Little Haiti Housing Association Intel Computer Clubhouse joined nearly 200 young people from 15 countries in Boston for the Intel Computer Clubhouse Network's 2004 Teen Summit. The teens used technology to create solutions for issues faced by their communities and were exposed to opportunities including a college and career fair, access to business professionals and various workshops. The Miami-area teens were selected based on their leadership skills, technical and creative abilities, and contributions to the community. The Miami attendees included Jeffrey Felix, 16, whose artwork is displayed on the international Intel Computer Clubhouse calendar; Shavonia Turner, 17, who enjoys Web design; Tasha Jean Noel, 15, who is interested in fashion; and Junior Escarment, 14, who is interested in all aspects of the program. The participants attend various schools in Miami, including Booker T. Washington, Edison High School and Horace Mann Middle School. The Teen Summit activities took place at the Museum of Science, the MIT Media Lab and Tufts University. Activities include workshops on Web design, architecture, journalism, broadcasting, fashion photography and community mapping. For more information, visit www.intel.com/education. |
