Beyond Black Boxes:
Girl Scout Philosophy

The Girl Scout Promise and Law, together with the concept of girl/adult partnership and planning, forms the basis for all Girl Scout programs. Girl/adult partnership and planning is the idea that all programs are driven by the needs of girls, and planned and led by girls whenever possible and appropriate. Girls are best served when they are encouraged and empowered to proceed according to their own abilities, at their own pace, and to take on new responsibilities and take risks within a safe, structured environment. These foundations of Girl Scouting were used in BBB to complement the philosophy and mission of the Computer Clubhouse

The Girl Scout Promise

On my honor, I will try
To serve God* and my country
To help people everywhere
And to live by the Girl Scout Law.

*Since Girl Scouting is for all girls, girls whose beliefs are expressed by a word or phrase other than "God" may substitute that word or phrase when they say the Girl Scout Promise.

The Girl Scout Law

I will do my best to be:
honest and fair;
friendly and helpful;
considerate and caring;
courageous and strong
and Responsible for what I say and do
and to:
respect myself and others
respect authority,
use resources wisely,
make the world a better place,
and be a sister to every Girl Scout.
